Why is ISO 9001:2015 important for businesses?

ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard that sets out the criteria for a quality management system (QMS). It lays out a framework for quality improvement and a terminology framework for an organization that strives to provide products and services that consistently meet customer requirements and expectations.

QMS is the totality of all processes, resources, assets, and cultural values that support the goal of customer satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. ISO 9001:2015 does not define what an organization's goals should be or how to achieve them. It is a flexible standard. It allows each organization to determine for itself what its goals should be and how to meet the established ISO requirements.

ISO 9001:2015 defines guidelines that can be used to improve efficiency by aligning and streamlining processes throughout the organization to reduce costs, create new capabilities, meet regulatory requirements and help organizations enter new markets where customers require ISO 9001 certification. Incidentally, ISO 9001 is becoming increasingly important for businesses operating in or partnering with the public sector or acting as suppliers (original equipment manufacturers).

In addition, it is important to understand that ISO does not certify to ISO 9001:2015. Instead, organizations engage an independent certification body to audit their QMS implementation for ISO compliance, such as SMK STANDART. Organizations of all sizes, formats and activities can be certified to this standard.
