ISO 45001: 2018
On March 12, 2018, the ISO 45001: 2018 standard “Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems - Requirements and Recommendations for Use” was published on the website of the ISO international organization for standardization.
According to the published binding document of the International Accreditation Forum IAF MD 21: 2018 “Requirements for the transition to the ISO 45001: 2018 standard”, the transition period to the ISO 45001: 2018 standard is three years (it will end on March 12, 2021).
The ISO 45001 standard uses a “high level” structure similar to other ISO standards, and this ensures its compatibility with ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015 and other standards, which is extremely useful for the integration of management systems.

- more attention to involvement of employees and leadership at all levels;
- extended requirements related to the procurement and activities of outsourcers;
- focus on the context of the organization. Organizations need to consider public expectations for health and safety.
- risk management. Focusing on identifying and controlling risks rather than hazards as required by OHSAS 18001;
- increased focus on setting goals as an improvement tool, as well as on evaluating results;
- more attention to communication mechanisms;
- requirement for organizations to develop processes for implementing and managing planned short-term or long-term changes;
- new terms: monitoring, measurement, efficiency, effectiveness and the process of managing labor protection and occupational safety, documented information.
However, despite the changes noted, the overall goal of ISO 45001 remains the same as OHSAS 18001 - to reduce unacceptable risks and to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the organization activity.
There is no approved national version of the standard identical to ISO 45001, the standard GOST R ISO 54934-2012 is valid.
